We
have had our junior program for the last 65 years and it is the
oldest junior program in the state of Maryland. Many of our senior
members started as juniors in our company. The junior program
strives to educate future members about Emergency Medical Services
(EMS) and Fire Fighting through diligent training, theoretical and
practical, and to teach them discipline and dedication. Our juniors
are part of our company and they participate in many company's
events and activities. They play a vital role in our company and we
see the future in their eyes.

The
juniors have weekly meetings and classes held at our company every
Tuesday night from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. Every Tuesday night starts with
a short meeting followed by training, theoretical or practical. The
juniors are taught a Heart Saver AED program, Firefighter basic
training (excluding live burns), and are trained on equipment usage,
EMS or Fire.
The
juniors have their own equipments and fund raising events. They have
their own fire engine, on which they practice and learn the
functions of the important pieces on the engine. They also have
their own EMS tools and toys. They alternate with their practice
between EMS and fire depending on what they want to learn or
scheduled events. Every now and then, they will have hands on
experiences, whether practicing life saving techniques or shooting
water at a target or an imaginary fire. On the other hand, they have
their own fund raising events, the funds of which are used for the
juniors only to purchase gears, dresses, or equipments. The company
does not take or invest any of the juniors' money.
Perspective juniors
need to adhere to specific company criteria and dress codes. The age
range for a junior is between 6-16 years of age with a parent
consent. Juniors have specific dress code: a company T-shirt, Black
pants, black boots/shoes, and black belts. The company T-shirt will
be given free of charge once a junior is accepted. The rest of the
dress code is not provided by the company.

For more information or
concerns about the junior program, please contact either Darren
Mcdevitt or Duck Condon at our station.
