--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On Saturday, September 22nd, the members of the ECVFD traveled to the Baltimore County FRA for a day of training burns at the academy’s burn building. The members participated in several evolutions designed to simulate various structure fire emergencies likely to be encountered during the course of department operations. Thanks to all who attended, and a special thanks to Otts, Mary, Kathy, and the others who provided lunch for the members at the training!

37 Box dwelling fire - Sept 25

The Friday night duty crew was sleeping peacefully, having run no calls since midday Friday, when the bells turned out the engine company for an investigation of an unknown type fire in the area of Annapolis Rd. and Florida Ave. The engine crew noticed a strong odor of burning in the neighborhood immediately upon leaving the station, and encountered a cloud of smoke drifting across Michigan Ave. Upon arriving at Annapolis and Florida, the crew found nothing, so they proceeded down Florida Ave to attempt to locate the source of the smoke. The crew arrived at 2808 Florida Ave, finding the homeowner standing in the front yard spraying his garden hose at fire burning through the roof of the home. The box was struck as the engine crew stretched from the hydrant and advanced a handline into the dwelling, encountering high heat and heavy fire conditions throughout the attic of the one-story structure. The crew, supported by ECVFD's second engine, as well as other units from the 2nd Battalion, made a quick knock on the well advanced fire, limiting the fire damage to the attic and roof area of the home. Another excellent job by the ECVFD crew to protect the neighborhood in which we serve!!

Car on Fire - Sept 17

Just as the Friday night crew was wrapping up dinner on the picnic table out front, a citizen came running down the street calling for a fire extinguisher. The volunteers quickly mounted up and drove three houses up Michigan Ave. to find a pickup truck well involved in the middle of the street. The crew quickly knocked down the fire, and backed less than a block down the street back to quarters in less than an hour. As one member of the crew stated "it's always nice when they bring the calls to us..."

Fire Box - Sept 10
Company 37 and others were alerted for a report of smoke coming from the dwelling. E371 established their own water & arrived with smoke showing along with a frantic neighbor reporting one still inside. The Engine guys rapidly went to work to locate and extinguish the second floor bedroom that was on fire. The Officer completed a primary search finding know one and the driver laddered the dwelling and opened the place up for the interior guys. Great job to all on scene.

Fire Box 37-1 Structure Fire - Sept 9
English Consul volunteers, along with other southwestern 2nd battalion units, were dispatched to a reported house on fire at around 1415 hours. Units arrived to find smoke and fire conditions inside a house at the reported location. Units effected a quick knockdown on a bedroom fire, and were able to scale back the incident relatively quickly. Good teamwork by all companies on the scene led to a safe, efficient operation. Units were back in station before long, and back to running the typical daily calls in the neighborhood.

Medical Box 37-1 Stabbing  - Aug 28

While neighboring units from Baltimore City were attending to a multiple stabbing incident adjacent to our first due area, units from company 37 were dispatched for an assault injury. Units arrived on scene to find a young male patient suffering from a serious stab wound to the neck. Units quickly assessed the patient as the medical box was struck, bringing medic 5 and EMS 2 to the scene. The crews from company 37 rapidly stabilized the patient and transported him to Shock Trauma as a priority 1 patient. Excellent job by crews on scene, particularly the medic crew who played a pivotal role in saving the life of the patient.

Units on scene: E372, A375

Rescue Box 37-3 Building Collapse - Aug  22

Units from English Consul and surrounding stations, along with BCoFD USAR crews, were dispatched to the Highland Village for the report of a building collapse with people trapped. Units from station 37 quickly arrived and determined that a partial collapse of a ceiling had occurred, and scaled back the box to hold company 37 units for evaluation of a patient with minor injuries.

Units on scene: E372, IV375

Fire Box 37-2 Building Fire - Aug 17th

The early morning hours of August 17th saw the English Consul volunteers in action as 2nd battalion units were dispatch to a reported building fire at Adell Plastics. Units from station 37 arrived on scene to find fire visible on the roof of a large manufacturing building. Units quickly located fire in an exhaust duct, and extinguished same. The fire was quickly knocked down, and units were held for some time opening up to check for extension. Great job to all the companies involved!

Units on scene: E372, E371, U378

MVC involving a motor cycle -  June 29th

On June 29, we responded to a 10-50 PI involving a motor cycle. We arrived on scene and secured it. The motor cyclist crashed into the rear of the car, hit & broke the back windshield, and flew about a 100 ft from the accident location. The patient, who was unconscious, had multiple serious and significant injuries. Appropriate treatment was rendered on the scene, and the patient was transported as a priority 1 to Shock Trauma. The car occupant sustained minor injuries and was transported as well.

MSFA 118th Annual Convention & Conference 2010 - June 16th

The English Consul had a great presence at the Maryland State Firemen's Association convention and conference in Ocean City this year. We had full crews for the Engine, Medic unit, Juniors' Bus, and the Utility. Everyone was dressed up to the occasion  and  represented our company in a professional manner. Despite the excruciating heat, the juniors were phenomenal walking down the parade. They deservingly won first place for "Beast Appearing Junior or Cadet Company".  Engine-372 also won an "Honorable Mention" of "Best Appearing Engine 1250 GPM & Over". We are proud of our juniors and  members who are sincerely dedicated to convey a professional  image to the public.

Wire Entanglement Training  - May 29th

Every day is a training day at our company. We have scheduled and random training events. On May 29, we held a company training drills on fire entanglement. We simulated a fire entangle rescue in our engine bay. We had supervisors and safety instructor guide the training. At the end of training, we  critiqued the pros and cons of the training. Overall, the training was satisfactory and everyone did a great job.
